A new SA-spot, & stomach is OK

Manuel is shedding

I have let Manuel wear his “loose coat” since it is still very cold outside but today I could not keep my fingers away.

He has looked like a very neglected dog since the loose fur has been handing on the attached hair in chunks. Anyhow, now I just had to remove some, and of course there I found an SA-spot that I have missed out on.  Brushing him was actually a good idea since I got to inspect his skin status all over his body. He has a small area in the neck that is greasy (struggling, but still alive that is) that has been kept that way for a long time now.

Close to the anus at the tail he has a more fully developed spot with inflammation.  The rest of the body is very dry, and that we have noticed since he recently has asked to be scratched on his head (or, he puts his head between your legs). I think I will increase the dose just slightly for a very short period of time to help him through this period of dropping coat.

Cyclosporine (Atopica) – stomach OK

He hasn’t had any more stomach problems at all, not feeling nausea either (if he does, he is drooling, which he normally doesn’t – unless an interesting bitch in heat… 😉 )

  1. One reason could be our strict routines when it comes to the food/rest/medication (but we still never never give him medicine if leaving him alone at home, he always gets it in the evening 4 hours before we go to sleep so we can monitor his reaction).
  2. But  a more reasonable thought is that it is all about making sure his gastric mucosa/mucosa is in a good condition. So if affected by bacteria or just a lot of acid (due to various reasons)  he shouldn’t get full dose. That week his stomach had been a bit upset and been making a lot of noise and he had let a lot of bad smelling gas (which he normally doesn’t) .

So I think it is more number two that is correct… – or both.
