It is clear it has followed the shedding period this time. Now Manuel is a wired-/short-haired Akita with some minimum of under coat actually growing out. His belly looks like a puppy-belly since one can see the spotted skin but the coat is growing also there. The best way of noticing the difference is to touch, but also looking from behind (opposite hair-growth direction).
Now we can touch his back without him reacting strongly (due to the strange feeling when no under-coat, not to any pain or so).
Even his tail has got some new wool.
We have started to cut down the Atopica again to full dose every second day = half dose in general.
No treatment of the skin at all, but he eats like crazy (like he always has done when growing coat), and we let him – he has never been wrong regarding how much/little food he needs.
As the skins is in a very “OK” condition now, even with some sebum-production we let him wade to cool off but are careful with rinsing and drying to reduce the risk of fungus.
He is very cheerful and actually feels much livelier in the summer-heat due to the lack of coat (and now we do not need to protect his skin from getting burnt, since he actually has a full coat – even if a new type of coat).
I just wish, I just wish that not too many of the sebaceous glands are totally destroyed… since I guess every break-out will leave him with a % less functioning glands….
